Backup & disaster recovery

Backup and disaster recovery you can rely on

Automated, encrypted backups that we monitor every day, and a tested plan to get your business running again after hardware failure, ransomware or the loss of a site.

Why backups fail when businesses need them most

Most businesses think they have backups. Fewer have backups that actually work. It's common for a backup drive to stop working months before anyone notices, for cloud sync to faithfully copy ransomware-encrypted files, or for the only copy of critical data to sit on the same server that fails. The time to find out is not the day you need to restore.

What we provide

Automated, encrypted cloud backup

Your servers, key devices and cloud data are backed up automatically to secure, encrypted storage off-site. Nobody has to remember to swap a drive or press a button.

Flexible retention

We agree with you how often backups run and how long they're kept, based on how quickly your data changes and any regulatory requirements you have.

Monitoring and testing

Backups are monitored every day. If a job fails, we know about it and fix it. We also carry out test restores, so we know your data can genuinely be recovered.

Fast restores

Whether it's a single file deleted by mistake or an entire folder overwritten, we can restore it quickly, often while you wait. Previous versions are kept too, so you can go back to the file as it was before a mistake was made.

Disaster recovery

For critical systems, we provide full disaster recovery solutions that can bring servers and applications back online quickly after hardware failure, ransomware or the loss of a site. We document a recovery plan with you, so everyone knows what happens and in what order.

Signs your backups need attention

If any of these sound familiar, it's worth having your backups reviewed:

  • Nobody can say when a restore was last tested. A backup that has never been restored is an assumption, not a safety net.
  • Backups go to a drive in the same office. A fire, flood or burglary could take your data and your backup at the same time.
  • The backup drive is always connected. Ransomware can reach any drive your computers can see, including the backup.
  • Cloud services are your only copy. Sync services copy deletions and encrypted files just as faithfully as good data.
  • Only the server is backed up. Email, cloud applications and files saved on laptops may not be protected at all.
  • There's no written plan. In a crisis, nobody knows which systems to restore first, or how long it will take.

Most of these can be fixed quickly, and the cost of fixing them is tiny compared with the cost of losing your data.

Who it is for

  • Any business whose data would be costly or impossible to recreate.
  • Professional practices that must retain client records and protect them properly.
  • Media and creative businesses whose project files are irreplaceable.
  • Businesses with on-site servers, where a single hardware failure could stop work.
  • Firms using cloud services that need independent copies of their data.

How we deliver it

We start by identifying what needs protecting: servers, devices, shared files, email and cloud applications. We then agree how much data you could afford to lose and how quickly each system needs to be back, and design backups and recovery to match.

Once in place, backups run automatically and are monitored by our team. We report on their health, test restores and review the plan as your business changes. Backup is often delivered as part of managed IT support and works hand in hand with our cyber security service.

Why choose Seabeck

  • Designed for ransomware, with copies held separately from your main systems.

  • An in-house team based in Elstree, Hertfordshire, supporting businesses across the UK.
FAQs

Backup and disaster recovery: common questions

What's the difference between backup and disaster recovery?

Backup means keeping copies of your data so files can be restored. Disaster recovery is the wider plan for getting whole systems running again after a major incident, such as a server failure, ransomware attack or loss of your office.

Doesn't Microsoft 365 or our cloud software already back up our data?

Cloud services keep their platforms running, but they don't always protect you from deleted files, overwritten data, malicious changes or ransomware synced from a device. Independent backups give you copies you control.

How long do you keep backups?

Retention is flexible and agreed with you based on your business and regulatory needs, from short-term daily copies to longer-term archives.

Can backups protect us from ransomware?

Yes, when they are designed for it. Backups held off-site and separate from your main systems mean that if ransomware encrypts your files, clean copies are available to restore.

How do we know the backups work?

We monitor backup jobs and act on failures, and we carry out test restores so you have confidence that data can actually be recovered.
