Cyber security for businesses that can't afford a breach

Layered protection for your devices, email, network and people, with the monitoring to spot trouble early and the backups to recover if the worst happens.

What cyber security means for a business

Cyber security is the set of tools, processes and habits that keep your systems and data out of the wrong hands. For most businesses the threats are not exotic. They are phishing emails that steal passwords, ransomware that encrypts files and demands payment, fake invoices and payment-change requests, and attackers exploiting software that hasn't been updated.

No single product stops all of that. Good security comes from several layers working together, so that when one is bypassed, another catches the problem. That is how we approach it.

Who needs it

Every business that uses email and stores data needs basic protection. It becomes critical if you:

  • hold sensitive client information, such as financial, legal, medical or personal records;
  • take or make payments, where a fake invoice or changed bank details could cost thousands;
  • need to prove your security to customers, insurers or public sector buyers, for example with Cyber Essentials;
  • have staff working from home or on the move, outside the protection of the office network.

Our layered approach

Protecting devices

Endpoint protection on every laptop, desktop and server detects and blocks malware, ransomware and suspicious behaviour. We combine it with patch management, so operating systems and applications are kept up to date and the vulnerabilities attackers rely on are closed.

Protecting email

Most attacks start with an email. Email security filters out phishing, malicious attachments and spoofed messages before they reach your team, and helps protect your own domain from being impersonated.

Protecting accounts

Stolen passwords are one of the most common ways in. We put multi-factor authentication in place, tidy up user accounts and permissions, and make sure leavers lose access promptly.

Protecting the network

We manage firewalls and network security at your office, and run vulnerability scanning to find weaknesses before someone else does. Guest Wi-Fi and staff networks are kept separate, so a visitor's device can't see your systems.

Protecting people

Security awareness training helps staff spot phishing, scams and social engineering, including fake invoices and requests to change supplier bank details. It's the most cost-effective security measure most businesses can take, and it works best when refreshed regularly rather than delivered once.

Monitoring and response

Where required, we provide 24/7 monitoring, so suspicious activity is spotted and acted on quickly. If an incident does occur, we help you contain it, investigate and recover.

Recovery

Security also means being able to recover. Our backup and disaster recovery service keeps encrypted copies of your data off-site, so even a successful ransomware attack doesn't have to stop your business.

Compliance

We help businesses meet their obligations under UK GDPR and prepare for certifications such as Cyber Essentials. We put the technical controls in place and help you document them, so you can answer customer and insurer questionnaires with confidence.

How we deliver it

We start with a security review of your devices, accounts, email, network and backups, and give you a clear, prioritised list of risks in plain English. We then fix the most urgent issues first and build up the layers over time, at a pace that suits your budget. Security is reviewed regularly, because threats and your business both change.

For most clients, cyber security is delivered as part of managed IT support, so monitoring, patching and protection are all handled by the same team.

FAQs

Cyber security: common questions

We're a small business. Are we really a target?

Yes. Most attacks are automated and opportunistic: phishing emails, password guessing and scans for unpatched systems hit businesses of every size. Smaller firms are often targeted precisely because their defences are weaker.

Can you help us get Cyber Essentials?

We can help you prepare by reviewing your devices, firewalls, accounts, patching and malware protection against the scheme's requirements and closing the gaps, so you are ready to complete the assessment.

What should we do if we think we've been hacked?

Call us straight away. Don't delete anything or pay any ransom. We will help contain the problem, work out what happened, restore systems from clean backups and advise on your next steps, including whether you need to report it.

Do you provide security awareness training for staff?

Yes. Staff are your first line of defence against phishing and scams. Training helps them recognise suspicious emails, links and requests before they click.

Is antivirus enough?

Not on its own. Antivirus is one layer. Modern protection also needs email filtering, patching, multi-factor authentication, sensible access controls, monitoring and reliable backups.
